Oil pressure problem in my 1969 912
Hi All, I was having a spirited drive the other night in my 1969 912 , I had run the engine to 6,000 rpm in a few gears and then cooled down for a slow evening drive. I parked the car for about an hour, came back out and headed off on a slower pace and while cruising at 25 mph th oil pressure light came on.....It's not labeled real well but it's the red light in the temp gauge housing on the left side....It lit up solid and did not flicker at all. I stopped, checked oil level, it was fine...No sounds of big parts eating little parts. I parked it until I could borrow an oil pressure gauge kit from one of my co-workers....It had 50 psi actual oil pressure at 1500 rpm... I replaced the OPS switch but the light still glows solid. As I ran the car with the OPS unplugged, the green generator light flickered...When the OPS was plugged back in the generator light stayed out......Any suggestions? Is 50 psi too high and would the OPS recognize that and turn the red light on?
The motor has about 3,000 miles on it and has been running strong.. Thank you, Toby Maxwell Maumee, Ohio |

The red light
... is normally the generator light; the green light normally indicates no/low oil pressure. You may be dealing with a wiring issue...

oil pressure
Well Peter, I worried that I might be looking at the wrong thing in the instrument...The red lamp is on the left of the temp gauge and tihe green light is on the right. My 40 year old owners manual was very vague about which lamp meant what.....I'll dig some more
Thanks, Toby |

Peter is correct. The oil pressure is the green light and the red light is the generator. The wire for the oil pressure should be green/red and the generator wire light blue. If the wires have not been changed. Then you will probably need new brushes for the generator.
