009 Distributors

I was reading an old thread on the 914 forum where there is a statement that the 009 Distributor was ofiginally designed for a Type 1 VW engine and that had a drive cam that retarded the ignition on No. 3 cylinder to reduce temperature.

Grinding a drive cam with a complex shape needed to retard No. 3seems quite complex and if these dizzies are being used as the basis of an RS0012 this must surely be incorrect.

Has anyone measured one?

You need to talk to or email John Benton on the 912BBS. He is the one that is curving the 009 to the RS0012.

I remember hearing that it was the configuration of the cap that was used to retard #3 cyl, but I'm not sure if it was the 009 &/or some OE distributors.
