912 Muffler

Hi,

My 1966 912 came with a Stebro fully chromed exhaust with quad tips. I like the look, but its very loud, I am considering changing to a Bursch muffler. Does anyone have any this brand installed? and if so can you tell me the pros and cons?

Thanks!

Might try the (newly redesigned) 912BBS. I know there are many there who have a Bursch muffler and can offer you their insight.

Thanks jt912. I wasn't thinking, I'll search the new 912bbs site before posting this question.

I haven't heard a Stebro muffler. However, the Bursch mufflers are about as loud as a Sport muffler. When you get on it.

Thanks. I also never heard of them. But apparently they have been in business since 1956. Here is a link to the site Stebro Stainless Steel Exhaust Systems. The muffler looks amazing its fully chromed with quad Ferrari style exhaust tips. The original owner paid over $1000 for them. I like the look, but it can be deafening. I might go OEM.

I've got the Bursch "street quiet" exhaust on my '68. Installation was fairly easy but had to fight a bit to line-up the flanges. Exhaust tip is also a bit off center of the cutout. All in all a good system for the money. Originally had the stock Dansk system. Fit was spot on but I found it a bit restrictive. I've got a Stebro on my '76 912E and love the sound. Fitment was poor and the flanges had to be ground down to fit. I'd be interested in your Stebro if you decide to sell it or offer you a swap for a new Bursch.
I'll be in NJ for Thanksgivings and can take care of the shipping.

Thanks Tony. Its tempting, but I am going to hold on to it for a bit. I might go for an M&K Exhaust. It cost a bit more then the Bursch, but I heard lots of positive things about this brand. I will defiantly send a PM if I decide to let it go.

I have the M&K and really like it. Excellent quality and fit. Sounds great but not too loud.
Not cheap though.
