You mean like a Pertronix system? Many people have been sucessfully using this or similar in place of standard points.

I have Perma -Tune with Pertronix in the 912, I'm not sure if it makes any difference or not, that said it runs good and always starts.
Perma Tune High Performance Ignition Systems I got it when I was first getting into Porsche......?

I have used the Permatune and the Pertronix. I like the Pertronix complete setup with the pointless, coil, and CD box best for the 912. The Permatune and the Pertronix CD boxes both work well, if not better, as a Bosch CD box replacement on the early 911's and 912R's.
Remember if you use a CD box on the 912. You must increase the spark plug gap from .025 in to a round .065 in |

I use the 123Ign distributor. You can set it for any of the Porsche 912 advance characteristics. 123ignition electronic ignition systems for classic cars. I nicely made unit, very high quality.
