![]() ![]() Hi, I'm one of the rare breed of 912E owners in the UK and I'm after a bit of info please. Does anyone know if 912E rear brake calipers are the same as (or interchangeable for) contemporary (ie 1976 2.7l) 911 ones as no parts listings for 912E's seem to be available and no one here seems to have heard of them let alone know anything about them! ![]() I would really appreciate any help anyone could give me on this one. Thanks, Lee |

Me too!
From what I can tell and have seen they are the same as long as the rotors are solid and not ventilated, but don't hold me to that. Lee what are you plans when you need to replace your exhaust? Nige |

How did those 912Ees land in UK? They must be REALLY rare there! As far as I know , the brakes in 912E are from older PORSCHEs.I replaced the front brakedisc, and it was the solid disc from old 911.Rear ones work the same way?I believe the brake parts from old 911s will fit.Donīt know the details or which type, though.I am sure someone here in the states knows.
I have been told that most will take out the "canisters"(thermal reactors) , and use BURSCH muffler. Me too. About 260$ in U.S.A. I have heard that one old 911 muffler is a close match , the inlet flanges need some modification.A good mufflershop can do that? e k i |

The former 912E owner Chris Nicol on the board indicated the front calipers are 923 (912E specific) while the rears are common/interchangeable. A common conversion is to 911 fronts (rotors + calipers) to get around the limited parts availablity/$$$ of 912E specific parts.
Post a message on the www.socal912.org board about muffler modication - apparently it is possible and looks very stock. I believe Bob did it recently. Best wishes - Scott, 69 & 76 912/E |

Thanks for the replies guys,
I'm now considering replacing the whole lot now with ventilated discs from a 911 as further investigation has revealed a lazy front caliper too! I suspect it may well be cheaper in the long term to do this - much less hassle too! Nige, I have already replaced the exhaust but as I intend keeping the car I had one made by Hayward and Scott in stainless steel - pricey (Ģ500) but top quality and with a 1,000,000 mile guarantee. It also looks very smart ![]() As far as I'm aware there are only three 912E's in the UK, a white one, a brown one and my orange one. There may be more but none that I've seen at shows or heard of on this forum |

I guess mine will be the white one, unless you know of another, I know Jon Abbot (JAVA Birmingham) had a yellow/lemon 912e for sale a couple of years ago. I bought it from Martin McGarry (Karmann Ghia man) a couple of years ago. Ģ500 is quite reasonable for stainless, was this from the heat exchangers back, did you have your thermal reactors bypassed? My intention is to replace all the exhaust system except the heat exchangers. Cheers Nige |

Nige,
The exhaust appears to bolt up to the heat exchangers so does that mean it bypasses the thermal reactors? To be honest I'm not too sure about all the emissions stuff, where it is and what it does but all the smog equipment is missing so could the thermal reactors have been removed ![]() Mine came from Steve Walker in Sheffield, having been brought over in 1998 from California by a returning expat who then never used it. Are you doing any shows this year? |

The thermal reactors hang below each cylinder head, they wrap the first 5'' or so of exhaust immediately before the heat exchangers, they measure about 3'' x 12'' and are cylindrical in shape. They help burn off the nasties out of the exhaust, when up to temp the ones on my car glow orange underneath its outer casing. From what I've heard if you can replace them with straight through exhaust it helps prevent the heads from cracking due to less heat in that area. Your car may have them unless the previous owners replaced them with the 'Y' shaped bypass sections. I don't know what shows are on this year, I supposed I ought to join the Porsche owners club. I used to attend quite a few VW shows such as Stanford Hall in Leicester and Bug Freeze but I've lost touch with that scene now. Cheers Nige |

As Scott indicated, I was fortunate to obtain an original 912E muffler. The defacto 912E Bursch sucks (search on my user name here, I have discussed this too many times
![]() ![]() I noticed the similarity between the stock 912E muffler and the OEM Dansk version for the 914. Coincidentally, I discussed this with a freind, and he indicated that he performed this installation. He simply had the flanges reattached at 180 degrees rotation. Greg H, was considering this conversion too. This spring, I will be installing the Polished stainless steel, Dansk 911 unit. The flange modification on these will probably be as expensive as the muffler itself ![]() Last edited by COLDBASS; 03-04-2003 at 08:41 PM.. |

Hey Nige
I'm going to Stanford Hall this year. Maybe we should get a group together / meet up there? Anybody interested? I know there's a few 912/914/356 which turn up. Always a good show. As for your UK 912E count - I did see a great looking brown 912E on the Isle of Wight David 66 912 |

Several Porsche Part catalogues say that 912E has the same front rotor as 65-69 911.Same rear rotor as 69 911. The solid ones.
Same sources say that front pads are the same as in 75-83 911.Ofcourse I canīt be sure about this information. Parts are not THAT expensive , pads are 25-40$.OEM front rotors were 70-80$. You canīt have many parts free for a PORSCHE... e k i |
