Question door swap/alignment woes

I swapped doors this weekend, but the replacements don’t align at all. My car is a ’68, and the donor doors were from a ’68. There is major interference between the rubber at the window frame and the frames of the rear quarter windows. Additionally, the rearward lower corners of the doors are hitting the body. The way I swapped doors was by removing the 6 bolts in the hinges. I realize the hingeplates move around slightly behind where those 6 bolts go. But that adjustment doesn’t seem to make a difference in the areas where things are rubbing.

1) Any advise on how to make these doors fit?

2) How do I remove the hinge pins? The manual shows a special tool, but would a hammer and drift work?

Thanks.

Doors

I am also woking on aligning my doors. When I first got my 912E the doors were not perfect with the body. I have corrected this pretty good but am still workin on it. So you are trying to make the door fit tighter and quit rubbing correct?

Some of the main things you need to look at and maybe adjust could be any of the following: door striker plate, those 6 bolts you refered to play a major part. Loosen the bolts ( while having someone support the door the retighten them. Also check the arm that runs between the hinges. Weather stripping will be one of the last things to look at...this helps a little but it sounds like what you are after is more the adjustment. These are the things I did to correct my alignment problem and to seal my doors better (quiter and less noise). I hope this helps...this is just what i did and it worked very well. If you have any questions let me know

Hi,

There are two types of doors. Maybe you got the wrong type. (Murphy) Read the comments in the SWB-LWB topic handled on this site some time ago.

The first thing I fixed on my doors prior to installing/adjusting was new hinge bushings, that took all the sag out of the door. I am working on a targa door so I dont have to worry about he window frame but your frame should have some adjustment to square it. I would fit the door shell, square it to the body, adjsut the the gaps with body sodier then install the window frame and fit that last to the body, I think its too hard to try to adjust everything at once.
