I am going to replace the clutch in my '76 912e. I have a few questions. My Porsche manual says the clutch disk size is 210 mm in dia. Performance Products has a 912e clutch kits and they call the size 215. Is this the same? My other question is if I take the same measurements of my clutch components and get VW components with the same size will they fit? Any other info would be lots of help. Also any thing else I need to knoe before swapping the old with a new clutch? Thanks Again

When you do your clutch job have your flywheel machined, this only cost me $40 Canadian and it insures the correct spacing of the pressure plate and clutch disc.
Put a new rear main seal in while the flywheel is out. I used Porsche parts on my clutch job but you could take your old pressure plate and clutch disc to a VW shop and compare them. I left the trany in our car and only removed the motor. Be sure to unhook the shift linkage as it can get bent doing the engine removal. It only took 45 minutes to put the motor back in once the new clutch and pressure plate was bolted on. Make use you put the throw out bearing in the correct orientation. Have fun our clutch job was done over a weekend and it was a great father son project. |
