Question 912 Generator Pulley vs 6 volt VW pulley?

Quick question - on a 1967 912 I remember Harry Pellow saying there must be 10 shims in the generator pulley to prevent the nut from bottoming out. I pulled my pulley off to check it and to change out the belt and just in time too! It is destroyed. The pulley was rounded out and held on by barely 1/16" of metal. The PO had only 6 shims in it. Until I buy the correct 912 pulley - does anyone know off hand if an early 6 volt VW generator pulley will work in it's place in the meantime?

Way back in the early 1980's I remember I used an early 12 volt Porsche generator to convert a 1962 six volt VW to 12 volt in order to keep the engine looking stock. I just cannot remember what I did for the pulley.
