effort to close door

How much pressure should it take to close the doors on a 912? Mine have to be shut pretty firmly, is this normal?

My 69 doors take a pretty good effort especially with new rubber around them.

Passenger side is a bit easier than driver side but not much.

Door shutting on my '67 is real easy..in fact I worry that they haven't latched so I lock when driving. My car has original locks.. anybody know off hand if a locksith can make me a key?

I have a pair of 68 912's and have always been extremely finicky about the way things like doors and decklids operate - just my nature. Mine close snugly with only a slight push even after new rubber.

That said, unless it is an E then these cars are over 30 years old so they each have developed their own little quirks. Sometimes you just gotta get it adjusted the best you can and go with it.

Also. this little trick comes in handy for major moves: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=40386

The doors on my 67 shut just fine, but if pushed hard it did depend on weather any windows were open to help displace the air!!

Also why is it that some people when getting out of these old cars feel they have to take a run up to shut the door. I would think we've all cringed as someone slams the door_ouch.

When I got my 67 912 the passenger door closed perfectly but the driver's door always needed a really hard push, often it would not latch properly. I initially assumed it was down to wear and tear but I eventually realised that the door latching device was much stiffer than the passenger side one. A quick shot of WD40 and it works perfectly now. I appreciate this is probably the first thing that you checked, but you never know...

Cheers Ian

Thanks for all the replies so far. I replaced the door seal with new rubber of the bulb type, before that the door closed fine. Just wondering if others had the same experience after they changed the door seals.
