Lightbulb 901 syncro slider wear

I am not very experienced with this but there seems to be a lot of mis-information on the net stating that the centre groove in the 901 transmission synchro sliders/sleeves is worn in or at least worn deeper.

This seems to me completely incorrect and in fact the groove will, in my mind, get shallower as the sleeve wears.

The outer flat areas on either side of the groove, adjacent to (effectively part of) the pointy teeth is the area on the inside surface that wears. And as this wears, the groove will get shallower.

The following is what seems to me to be the best description that I can find by someone more knowledgeable than myself (This forum, John Walker's Workshop, 2001):

"the inner flat area on the teeth that first contacts the syncro look pretty worn. they are about 1/8" wide when new, looking from the tip of the tooth and inward. as the sleeve rubs on the syncro surface over time, that area gets longer looking and the sleeve contacts the syncro deeper, higher and closer to the teeth on the gear."

Of course the more obvious (and I think, within reason, less important) area that the sliders wear is on the pointy tooth "rooftops". Please correct me if any of this is wrong!

I almost reused my 2nd/3rd gear slider (since the teeth are pretty pointy on both sides still), until I realised this - that these surfaces are very worn (lengthened), and the groove narrowed, even compared to my 4/5 slider.
