Electronic Ignitor Ignition with #31

Hey folks,

I was thinking on "upgrading" my #31 with a ignitor kit.....

What would be your pros or cons for performing this "upgrage"....

Is anybody driving such a system ?

Any advice welcome!

Viele Gruesse

SAM

P.S.
By the way - is there a ignitor kit for a #31 ?

Hello

several ways to go.

On the JFR maybe the Mercedes Bosch module will fit ( used in the /8 4 cylinders ).

If not the Lumitition is maybe the simplest to go.

The advantage is save on tune up time and a constant timing point over the lifetime.

If you use the Bosch units with the high power ignition you can ignite leaner runing engines and have more coldstart reserves.

Hey Roland

Das klingt nach einem.....

This sounds like a general PRO vs. no cons.....

So I will check for the /8 units.......

Mit vielen Grüssen aus Cannes

I was told I had to switch to a 050 in order to get an electronic pickup.. I did - I went with Petronix and am very happy with both. I recommend it. ($60 for a NEW dist. and $55 for the Petronix)

Hello

The distributor from the 200/8 MK II M115 isn´t a direct bolt in. You have to find the triggerplate with wireloom and the CD box.

They where also used in later 123 series cars with M115 engines but the distributor got enlarged with the now M 102 OHC engines in 1980.

Those kits where also sold by Bosch as seperate upgrades for several types from distributors. Sometimes you can find them NOs or used.

However a Lumetition or Petronix upgrade is at the same pricelevel then the used Bosch parts.

I don´t think you need to run the engine lean or have coldstarttrouble. When the engines get some more power squished out by higher compression you will need the extra sparkpower. The 912 combustionchamber has some lean spots to ignite.
