Trunk light question??

On my 69 targa my trunk light only works when the parking lights are on, is this the way they work or do I have something hooked up wrong? Don't tell me its some sort of road side safety thing!!

Hey Craig

I think thats right, only works with parking lights on. How about that safety turn signal light !!! Turn off the car and leave the turn signal on. The turn signal light, in that direction, stays on solid.

Im sure the light in the trunk can be rewired to work with the parking lights off.

That trunk light really make sense when you think of it- you'd only need it under "lights-on" conditions & during the daytime if the trunk is left open & you don't notice the light, the battery isn't draining.
As for that low-wattage parking marker, it's for "curb parking" on those narrow European alleys, etc., where parking half on the sidewalk & the other half on the street is allowed at night.

Hi

The parking marker light is really to stop idiots driving into the side of your car at night! Something I couldn't do without in London!

As for the luggage light, I'm sure you can attach it to a different fuse due to the light having its own switch. At the moment it's attached to fuse number 6 which also operates the licence plate (hence the lights). You could use number 2 fuse which operates the interior light (fuse numbers based on a 66)?

Hallo

All 69-71 911/912 have that trunklight setup. In 72 they returned to the previous layout.

Parking lights function was depending on the delivered state madatory.

Interesting thread here

On my 69 coupe I have a small plunger switch by the light and it comes on when the hood is raised. But I don't have the side parking lights either.

light it up.....

Hello All,
I originally had one light under the hood but optioned to add a second. The mounting holes and wiring was already in place. It would be easy enough to rig it so you could operate the hood lights with out the parking lights being on, although I believe for safety in a night time break down or whatever situation having the parking lights lit up is a good idea.
Good Luck,
Chas
