My cardboard bulkhead was missing when I bought my car last year. I bought the correct brackets off e-bay and had a piece of 1/16" thick aluminum formed and riveted to the brackets.
I painted it and installed the snaps for the trunk carpet. I think it turned out OK. Take a look. It will definately last longer than the cardboard version. Ron

Bulkhead
I'll try to blow up the picture. It's on my work computer so can't do it untill next week.
I bought the brackets and a narrow cardboard bulkhead off e-bay. Have no idea what model year it came from was way too narrow. Saved the brackets and had a piece of aluminum sheared to L x W and had the HVAC company that services our plant HVAC roll the contour as a favor. My cost was the $40.00 for the original bulkhead brackets. The rest was free. I already had the paint and had a snap set from installing snaps in the side wall trunk carpets. I was lucky to have this available to me. Thanks, Ron

Smugglers Box
Brett:
I keep all my tools in the smugglers box. I made up 4 heavy vinyl tool bags sewn up by our local shoemaker and stuff them with all my metric hand tools and keep them in the box. Works great and is out of sight. I can pack a lot of tools in there. Keep spare parts in there too. Thanks, Ron

I must say, your fabricated one looks great. Well, at least you had the cardboard bulkhead! It was one of the things missing when I rescued mine from the PO's barn. I'm pretty sure the mice disassmbled it, as well as some of the trunk carpet, and stuffed it into the glove box for a nest! What a pain those rodents can be.

Ron,
Do you have any other pix of that and or how you manufactured that bulkhead? Mine is falling apart and they are literally impossible to find in any sort of decent condition. Send them my way p912s@pacbell.net thanks Craig |

If you want a full size picture give me your e-mail address and I will send it directly to you. It's too big for this BB.
Thanks, Ron

I have noticed that this bulkhead is really necessary to help support the sill on my 69, without it the weight of the wiper system and the blower box can cause the sill to bend down leaving your hood (bonnet) higher and look like its out of alignment. You should at least install the two supports.

Craig:
The two brackets that support the bulkhead are very strong and probably do add rigidity to the window sill. Not sure what other brackets you mean. Thanks, Ron

yep, the brackets that have the cardboard rivited to them. They do add a lot of support, it would make no sense for Porsche to go overkill on the brackets and then add the cardboard cover to save production costs if they did not serve any purpose other than to hold the cover in place. As you noticed, these brackets are very strong and would be hard to fabricate a reproduction equal to the original.
