911 temperature sender in 912

A 911 guy needs help from you 912 guys...

My 911 used to be a 912. It now has a '74 2.7 flat six in it.
Is there a difference between the temp sender of a 911 and that of a 912? I replaced my temp sender, which I thought to be that of a 911, with an exactly similar looking 911 sender, and now the gauge readout is inverted. The hotter the car gets, the cooler it indicates, and vice versa.

Any idea what the problem is?

Hello again

Your instrument might be a very old version who needs a PTC instead a NTC sender ?

Roland,

The car's body (and instruments) are a '68 912. Very old, in other words. I didn't know thet there were two types, I'll try to find a PTC sender in stead of the later type I have now.

Hello

Don´t do guesswork. PTC sensors run over 200 euros in germany.
The parts have order# to compare if they match amd also make a test with boiling water.

Lets see if you get answers on the other board ;)

I think they changed them to NTC in 69 because thats what mine is and the sender is only about 25 bucks, I have a 68 gauge which when hooked up to my 69 sender operates in reverse.

You need to install a 912 temp sender (inexpensive) into your 911 motor in order to make the 912 guage work properly.
I don't know what PTC and NTC means. This solution worked for me.

Hello

NTC = Negative Temperature Coefficient

PTC = Positive Temperature Coefficient
