912e distributor service
Information and parts for distributor ignition is becoming scarse. The 2000 Bosch Ignition Parts catalog lists currently available parts but a lot of specific distributor information is NLA. (That catalog does not list any vacuum advance/retard unit for the 912e, nor any nearest replacement.) I have a distributor with a trashed centrifugal advance (mangled springs & plastic posts) and an incorrect vacuum advance/retard unit. Cross reference shows it as off of a 1974 914 1.8L.
1. How can we verify or modify a vacuum unit so that it is basically 912e stock? 2. How can we select the correct springs so that the centrifugal advance works as stock. I have the Porsche service manual that gives the curves for the distributor but I don't have the corresponding curves for new or salvage parts. For example I can't compare the vacuum advance/retard unit's curves for the 912e vs. the 914 1.8L. Any suggestions? P.S. Anyone who has converted to Webbers and has changed out their distributor, please let me know if their old one is available. Tom Zuraw |
914 distributor
Generally, going to webbers in a 914, later model 912
requires an 009 distributor. The 74, 75 914 1.8 L-jetronic used 2 different distributors. I believe I have both kinds if you are interested. |
Jess,
I am interested. Please write me. But you may want to search "distributor curves" here first. See http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=1237&highlight=distributor +curves There seem to be many who have an interesting opinion about the 009 distributor. Tom Zuraw |

Hello
Maybe the 914 board or the type4orum are more helpfull as that engine was very comon in 914, 411/412 and Buses. Most L-Jetronic type 4 had the same distributor but there are several Bosch# for the same item. I don´t like the 009, the 050 are much better curved. Most parts are still aviable at Bosch in germany however if you see the prices you fetch a new unit as long they are aviable. The point slider plate runs at 40 euros and the dual vacuum canister with adjustable stops runs at 70 euros.
