Need Autocross Advise
Thinking of giving it a try this Sunday for the first time thru our local pca club, Any advise besides have fun? I have been reading old posts on autocross and I really sound like a BLAST!!! They will be having a rookie session that I can get some instruction but any tips or what to expect is always helpfull prior to the event. Some of the guys were talking about breaking spindles but I think that was on a the 944's. I am going to be the odd ball of the group with a 4 cyl. but from what I have been reading these 912's do a good job of holding their own.
Thanks and I ll let you know how it goes. Craig |
Craig:
If you can get your hands on the latest copy of Excellence there's a good article on first-time autocrossers. Good luck, Bill. |
My advice; be smooth and gentle with the car. When having difficulty, the first thing you should do is slow down - slow is fast. It may feel fast manhandling the car and throwing it around, but it isn't. A 912 is relatively underpowered and won't respond well to that type of driving style. I plan on doing some autocrossing this summer as well. Hope you have fun, take some pictures (post them here and send them to the 912 registry) and let us know how you do.

I agree, the RE in my "home" region of Misery Bay (Erie, PA) comes up to me after a Fast time of the day run in my brother's STOCK neon, and says "You really don't look like you're going that fast out there, but the times don't lie."
I eventually got beat by a street prepared 944. steve very proud of winning in cars I've never driven. |
