Buying a Salvage Title?

What's everyone's opinion on salvage title 912? I found a local one in the color that I want, but it's a salvage title due to rear end body damage.

It all depends on the quality of the repairs. During the 80's a lot of cars that would be fixed today were totalled because low vehicle values made them too expensive to repair on the insurance company's dime. The other thing to consider is what you want to do with it. Most s title cars wouldn't be considered "investment grade" but I personally try to avoid thinking of these cars as investments. I think they are to be cherished and driven. If that is your perspective this car could be a great deal if it wasn't hit too hard or was fixed properly. Hell, many none s title cars have more rust repair than a car that got gently tapped and written off when values were in the tank. Get a ppi on the car from a shop that knows body work and go with your gutt feeling once you have some professional input.

 Salvage Title

Be careful that a salvage title does not contain the words "non-rebuildable" or "for parts only." Some states will not issue a new title (salavage or clear) if the one you're trying to transfer contains this language. Ask me how I know. I have a totally restored car and can't currently get a title for it in South Carolina. I'm looking for other options but haven't had much luck yet. I'm currently trying to put together a record of repairs made to the car with pictures to see if I can apply for a SALVAGE - REBUILT title. Jack

RUN AWAY, RUN FAR AWAY!!!! There are plenty of viable 912 in a multitude of states of repair/restoration. Don't buy someone else's problem. Salvaged titles can be a hassle with the Department of Motor Vehicles and Insurance, especially with classics. Either way, be sure to do your homework...... Seen good looking cars with salvaged titles up until the point they have been involved in an accident and the body weld holding the two halves of two different cars breaks in two. Very ugly outcome to ALL OCCUPANTS..:-(
