Question temp motor

I need a long block for my 912e....long enough to visit relatives and return...6k miles. I don't have time to rebuild mine before trip. Does anyone know of quality shop for long block purchase?
I would be happy to make someone a deal on same long block in October, when I have the time to re build my own and make a fine deal on a then lite used type 4.
I resealed mine 4k miles ago and still smokes. Euro flat tops and easy cam and timing...just no seal.
Thanks you guys
steve / seattle

Hey Steve

How about cbperformance.com or Harry Pellow's shop. Never used either, but have heard good things about both. CB can sell you a turnkey, FI w/ turbo pure fun !!!

Any idea why your first rebuild wont seal ?

If you're looking for a temporary engine, then most salvage yards should be able to get you a VW Bus (pre -78) or Porsche 914 2.0L that may work. A bus 2.0L would require different intakes though (four-stud vs. three stud), but the rest would mesh with your car. Any used engine will be a gamble though.

You could always run a 1.7L or 1.8L, but not sure how your injection will agree with the smaller displacement, and the intakes are all four-stud.

For a GOOD running performance (or stock) Type 4 engine, be sure to check out Jake Raby at http://www.aircooledtechnology.com

He would be to Type 4s what the Maestro is to 356/912s. However, Jake will build ANYTHING you want, and will only use top quality stuff. It just depends on how much you want to spend. He is not cheap, but he is good, and very reputable. Oh, and he has two 912Es in his personal inventory.

Later,

G
