912 rebuild

I was hoping for some feedback regarding the AA pistons/cylinders for my 1966 912, worth saving the money or should I go for the $2645 Mahli's?

Mahle's are not the recommended choice anymore.
They are made the old fashioned way, in a old fashioned design and still expensive.

There a more modern, stronger and cheaper brands...

Some have quite good results with the AA P/C sets, but as much experienced problems like not perfectly matching P's and C's. I would not take the risk with this and similar Chinese products. Nice for a tuned dune bug, but to my opinion not in our Porsches.

A nice alternative for the Mahle sets are the ones from Nikasil, also called "Nickies". Like the Mahle products not cheap, starting around $2000 in the webshop from our host.

An other good brand is Shasta, but I don't know in which price range they sell their products, but it will be more or less the same as the other available quality brands.

Why not go for the original Mahle's?

I sold and my shop built engines on the Shast 1720's for many years. Never had a quality or performance issue with them that I ever recall. Probably what I would use if I needed to rebuild my engine.
