My 69 came with no emergency brake light switch. I plan to install one soon. Which instrument gage should light up when the emergency brake is on? Is it the bottom of the Oil Temp gage? What color is it?
Where is the fuel reserve light? On the bottom of the Gas Gage? Probably red color. Thanks, Ron D

Ron, You are correct on both. Ebrake light is large light under oil temp. Mine is white but with a green tint. It may be faded. Do you have an Owners Manual? It may tell u in there. Mine manual is in the car and I don't have a garage so I can't keep the car here-
dammit. The fuel light is red and comes on at a 1/4 tank when you are cornering. Howard

These two lights are just a nuisance. My hand brake light bulb burned out about twenty years ago & has never been replaced because I don't need an idiot light to remind me when the hand brake is on. Ditto for low fuel although that one still works.

Ron,
My handbrake light increases in intensity with greater application of the emergency brake. Fuel low light is red and can come on at any time below a 1/2 tank depending on speed and cornering. Craig |

What? Does this mean that if the oil light comes on and its not to bright, I can keep going Please dont try this, just have fun. Also, my ebrake is bright white, even at first click. Brett |

Hi Ron
Check the bulbs. One of my cars had no reserve fuel light and that's all it was. Did someone remove your e-brake switch? Seems odd that it wouldn't be there. Cheers |

Thanks for all the replys.
Yes I have an Owners Manual but is is not specific as to where the Emergency Brake Light is located. Also it does not mention the color of the low Gas warning light. The E switch is gone as is the wire to it. PO must have removed them. I agree about stupid idiot lights but then again, I want my car to be as "Original" as I can make it. Thanks, Ron

Hello,
I thought I knew every square inch of my 69,912....this is new to me, as far as I know I have no switch or wire on my e-brake handle. I do have to low gas indicator, it reads red when low under the gas gauge. I'll be looking into this a little further, thanks for the info. Chas. |

Chas.
The 1969 Porsche Parts Catalog calls out a P/N 901.613.521.20 "Contact piece for parking brake control light" as standard equipment on 69 USA 912's. I believe the wire to the switch is brown with white stripe, can someone verify this please. Thanks Ron

Not sure of the wire color but the wire runs out of the bottom rear of the ebrake handle assembly. According to the schematic I have it should be a brown and white stripped for a 69.

Hey Ron
If you ground that wire (brown/white), the elight should lite. If you look at the brake HANDLE at the back, you will see a small copper piece that sometimes brakes in half. If you dont have any copper after the second revit, might be broke. Also, the sw. piece has a small set screw on the passenger side. What happens is when you pull the handle up, the grounded copper comes in contact with the sw. piece and should lite the e brake GoodLuck Sorry about the english ![]() Brett |

Brett,
Well that explains the increasing intensity of my brake light. Someone suggested I should patent that fine "feature" Craig |

HeyRon
Maybe this will help. I traced the ebrake wire back under my rear trans cover. Looks as the wire comes out the wire loom there. Look under your rear trans cover, maybe its just coiled up sitting there GoodLuck Brett |

Brett:
Thanks for looking. I am in the middle of replacing the rear suspesion bushings but I will take a look for the wire as soon as I finish this job. Ron

I've had my car for a total of five days now, and am suprised to no end about the things that WORK on this car. So far the only thing electrical that I found not working was the horn, and it worked for a second, then quit.
So, I went home, started the car, pulled the E-brake and a bluish-white light lit up under my temp gauge. So, I've got a working one! Very cool. Later, G |

My owners manual mentions that the emergency brake light also will light up if one of the of the dual master cylinder circuits fail. USA master cylinders were of the dual circuit type, front & rear independent with shared dual master cylinder.
Has anyone (unfortunately) confirmed that this works? All the more reason to make sure the EB light circuit is functioning properly and the light bulb is good, although I would think this would be a redundant connection since it's USA DOT safety related. Thanks, Ron

Ron: You're right about the Driver's Manual. I had to replace my master cylinder many years ago because of a spongy feeling pedal and fluid leak but the light never came on as I recall. Probably a good idea to have this feature though, just in case.

Hello to all,
Today I fixed my e-brake sensor light that we have a discussed on this thread. The wire for my 69 is brown with white stripe. As posted above the copper contact on the e-brake lever was broken off. I fixed mine by re-riviting a new piece metal where the broken one once was, bending and adjusting accordingly, it works perfectly. Thanks for all the info on this topic. Chas. |

I decided to order an emergency brake light switch assembly and install it on my car. I was pleasently surprised to find out it was less than $12.00 from Stoddard.
Now I hope that brown & white wire is still there somewhere in the tunnel. Thanks, Ron
