Control arm bushing replacing
 

Hello,

I need to replaced all the bushings from the control arm, and I'm not sure the best way to removed the inner shell of the control arm bushings.
I have the control arm completely off the car, and i guess it should be much easier this work this way. Any advice and knowledge on this issue would be much appreciated.

Well you evrething on picture big hammer and chisel .Best way is cut center whith hacksaw.

Run a MIG Weld radially around each half shell but don't weld all the way through.

As the weld pool cools it will cause the shell to shrink slightly and then you should be able to pull it out with pump pliers.

We have done a few dozen this way without problem.

Thanks for the input. I was able to removed the sleeve, but now, the newly bushing is getting difficult to insert into the opening..should I just line it up and hammered home? What is the best way to get them in?

Press them carefully, the ridges in the outer sleeve deal with tolerance and fit so they need a good squeeze.

Good thread. I going to try using the heat from the parts washer to both clean up my arms before abrasive blast job and removing those stubborn pieces. It usually does the trick but one has to have access to a parts washer. I like the MIG trick. Did you press them in with a vise? My rear arms have the head of the bolt facing towards the transmission. PITA if you don't have the engine/tranny out. I guess they put it in this way early on as a safety factor? Seemed like a cruel joke.. '66 912 Euro

I managed to finish the whole thing without using heat. I use a bench vise and just claimed the bushings one at a time, using a large flat washer to protect the bushing. I use a four feet pole as leverage as torque, since is required lots of torque to force the bushing in place. I will post pictures in coming days.
