912 Body Value

Hey Everyone,

I haven't posted in forever, but I finally started parting out my 912. I took it for it's last drive Saturday evening. Man am I sad to see it go, but I'm moving up to a 911, so it's not all bad.

I couldn't find anyone that would buy the car whole, so I've started parting it out. I'm only really interested in selling the big parts, the engine, transmission, and then the whole rolling body. I've already sold the transmisson, and I know what I'd like to get for the engine, but I have no idea what I could get for the body.

I have some bad pics of the car here:
http://www.turkys.com/admin/porsche.html

So, I was wondering if some of you guys might be able to help me figure out roughly how much I could hope to get for the body. As can be seen in the pics, it needs a new left rear bumper, and some work to that fender... and a little trim. It has new floor pans, all new throttle linkage, new brakes, pads, etc... new windshield and trim, an almost perfect interior exept for a few rear pieces (recovered in incorrect vinyl) and crack in the dash, Refinished gas tank with new strainer, all new fuel lines, Every light on the car works except for the interior dome light, I can't think of anything else big about the body... it needs paint obviously...

Anyway, I would really appreciate any input into how much this body is worth, and I appreciate all the help everyone on this forum has given me with my 912.

Thanks,
Andrew

Porsche Crest Moving up?

If you think the 912 was tricky good luck with a 911. Watch out for the timing chain...

I'm not sure on it's value over there across the pond, but if you had that car here (UK) you would have sold it pretty easily. I think it looks cool, in fact if it was here I would buy it !!

Sad to see another 912 be split.

Oh good luck with the 911, I also did the same went from a 67 912 and a 69 912 to a 1971 911S..... hopefully this car will be 100% finished soon and I will post some pics.

If you are worried about the chains just fit some hydraulic chain tensioners.. I did.

Keep us all up to date

I'd guess 1500-2000 no engine or tranny...1000 bucks if you pull the interior. I tend to guess high. I say this because a complete nice looker is 5000-6000, a good running engine will run 2500-3000+, the tranny 750-1500....etc...

911 guys are picking them up regularly for track cars...(they do engine swaps..)

write me if you still have no luck selling the body...I'd be interested in just a shell with gauges, dash, and headliner (no seats)

PM me...

it could make the hybrid I've got planned a little easier.

Those numbers are pretty close to what I've been thinking. I sold the transmission for a lot less, but I also sold it to a friend who paid in cash, so I really didn't mind.

I'll probably be asking at the high end for the body and the engine. I know green hates the carbs I've got on it, but it's basically a brand new engine and runs like a champ. And the body, well, aside from the paint and the left rear damage, I've spent so much money getting the body into shape that there's just no way I would sell it for bottom dollar.
Which is why I didn't sell the car whole, the best serious offer I got for the car was $3,000 which meant a $17k loss for me. I'd rather not strip anything from the body. I think as it is, it's in above average shape for anyone that doesn't care about a matching numbers car, and just wants an old Porsche to rebuild and have fun with.

as far as a 911 is concerned, unfortunately I won't be staying with an early car. I'd love to have another 67-72 car, but I just couldn't afford it. Plus I'd like a car that can be driven daily without too many hassles. I'm hoping to find an 82 or 83 'SC in nice shape somewhere. Lol, hopefully when I get ready to get another early car some of them will still be around.

Try the 911 guys then...a good solid shell is always needed by the vintage racer types...

I'm looking for a reasonably solid shell for a porsche hybrid project.
