912 Value please
 

Hello, may I ask a question please? I have an opportunity to purchase a 1967 912.

-It has a 911T engine. There is 40k miles on that engine placed in it in the 80's
-120k on the odo
-original paint in fair condition with a BIG scratch going down the entire door
-runs and drives actually pretty well
-no rust
-original everything, except engine of course
-normal wear for period, interior fair just a couple cuts in seats

overall fair shape, 4 owner vehicle with current owner since 1985.

What would be the value of this in your opinion please?

Need pictures, I own 2 912 cars, as you might know originally on any collectible car brings the most money....it's now kinda like a toy. Maybe $15,000 are guess need more info.

I would agree at $15K for the low end. If it is a really nice car, complete, and as rust free as you claim I would bump it up to around $20K.

Since you have a 911T engine. It would best check the 911 Group. That is something that they are very familiar with installing 911 engines into a 912. They would have the value. Since they now would consider it a 911 and there is now no difference except the Vin.

When you ask them the value, be sure to post pictures. The condition makes all the difference in the value. Without pictures it is worth what you can part it out. :confused:

Sorry gents I cant get pics. it is a looked after vehicle but a little ignored lately and the owner is getting up in years.

I'd love to someday turn it into something like a singer or a Magnus creation..............To me the long hood is the most valuable aspect of it.

Here's one for sale by a dealer. It has been for sale for more than a month so obviously overpriced:

I know of a really nice '68 with a 2.7l engine swap in it that sold for around $20k in less than a week.

If the car itself is a 6-7 but has the T in it and was mine to sell........behind door #1.......24K
If it is a 7-8.........behind door #2........27K
An 8, since I would think a 9-10 would be original concours only, behind door #3........30K

Now that is what "I" would ASK if it was mine to sell. Whether I would ascertain a buyer for those prices ??????

My personal belief is that with no rust, no extreme modifications, an interior that's in great condition and original, and with decent original paint (with a T or E power plant), a car should still sell for a decent price. The T engine alone is worth 4 to 6K depending of course the condition that it's in. The 911's sell for two to three times more than our 912's. An engine swap back to original will actually be a wash or money maker, not taker.
I always appreciate the opportunity to opine. The 912 values are gonna sky-rocket in the next 3-5 years. It's simply not feasible for the 911 to go through the roof without taking us with them, eventually.

Perfect example is the Mercedes-Benz 190SL (with the big brother 300SL likeness). I owned a 190SL (1961) about nine years ago. It was appreciating then but I saw fit to take my chunk (car was a $36,000 car then & I paid mucho less) and put the proceeds towards my then GT3 purchase. That 190SL now? You cant believe it but they are over $100,000 in the condition mine was (driver). Just a handful of years later!

Now of course when your talking Mercedes the 300SL brother is over a million dollars. So to have the likeness 190SL for $100,000 - $200,000 is within reason. But with early 911's going north of $200,000 now - the likeness 912 will indeed follow (it already has in fact).

Here is the best part... The 190SL drove like a pig. It was heavy for its 105HP and the car was generally not a fun drive. Pretty yes, but the gauge set up & the low power made for nothing but an in town car. The 912 on the other hand is MORE fun to drive than its 911 sibling (at least mine is). I think that fact will be pivotal in its continued appreciation.

It definitely has rust :D
