Question Another mystery wire ?

I recently removed and replaced the sound padding around the engine on my '66 912. In the process I found an unattached wire behind the engine.

It's green with a red stripe. According to my wiring diagram, it's for the oil pressure warning signal. My question is: where/what does this wire plug on/in to in the engine compartment area?

Down behind the distributor you will find the oil temp and pressure sending units.

Of bigger concern, you should have a green warning light on the dash (oil pressure) lit without that connected......

I've got the identical wire (green w/red stripe) on my '68. I know the wiring diagram indicates oil pressure, but my green light seems to work fine... I was thinking the mystery wire might have gone to an electric choke, at one time?? My current webers don't have a choke. Did any of the original solex carbs?

Sorry I don't have a positive ID, but I do have the same wire with no (aparent) adverse effect

According to the the service manual, no choke was needed due to the fact the carburators are so close to the intake. One or two pumps of the accelator pedal dumped enough raw gas into the intake to fire up a cold engine.

Temp & pressure wires

I only have one sending unit behind the distributor.
Is the oil temp and pressure signalled by the same sensor?
My pressure idiot light is fine, but I don't get any readings on my temp gage, so where is the temp sensor on the '69?

Danke

My oil pressure light on the dash seems to work fine. It comes on at start up and then goes out. Temp gauge works fine, too. Sensors behind the distributor have wires going to them--one green and one brown. The wire in question would never reach the distributor area, even if I were to bring it directly over the fan shrowd.

I have a 3-gauge dash. Could it be something that is only needed for cars with the 5-gauge dash, but included in all cars for manufacturing simplicity?

At this point, since everything seems to be working, I think I will tuck it behind the sound padding.
