I've heard of that problem before on the 912Registry bbs. Do a search here.

Speaking of the registry. I have been trying for several YEARS to register on the site unsuccessfully. Emails to the admin go unanswered. Off topic I know but it is my Thread LOLZ. Any one else run into this problem?

Jody,
The nut for that bolt is in the engine compartment behind the fan. There is a magnetic tool that is available to help with it's removal. You could also use a vice grip to hold the nut while you remove the bolt. It's sometimes easier if you drop the engine a couple of inches:
Place a floor jack under the engine and lift until the engine starts to rise. Remove the two bolts holding the engine mounting bar. Carefully and slowly, lower the engine a few inches. If you go too low, you risk damaging the transmission shift rod that connects to the shifter. With that little bit of extra room, the nut is pretty easy to get to.

JodyC,

What are you trying to do? Join The Registry or just log on to the 912 BBS.

If you want to become a member of the Registry. PM me a email address you can be reached at and I will send it to the Registry President. He will then get back to you. They do most of their business through the 912BBS web site. I do not know how often they monitor the 912 Registry web site. I know it usually takes about four weeks after I send my renewal membership to get my new card. All of the positions on the Registry are non paying and filled with volunteers and those elected.

Becker, who started the Registry and was it's first President, is here on this web site. I am sure he can also help you, become a member.

There is a nut that will use a 17mm wrench to remove behind the dog house on the right side, be careful not to drop it, it's done by feel. Some guys secure that nut with JB weld to avoid dropping it. If you have a mirror and good light you can see back there. Good luck, Bob
