912 Gearbox Build
Hello guys,
The rust restoration is now completed on my 69 912 and I am looking for someone that can complete a gearbox build that will work with the larger displacement FAT engine. From research and help from the forums it appears that most guys swap 3, 4, & 5 from a 914 gearbox. If you know of anybody that can complete the gearbox build please let know Thanks, Russell |

A 912 trans is the same as a 911 trans. If its a 1969 box it is a Mag case trans and can easly handle a 210 h.p. 911 2 liter engine. You may want to change some of the gear ratios?

Hey Gunzel,
Yep, it's a 69. Mike is working the box over for me with some gear changes. Here is Mike info in case you ever need some work done. Mike Lesniak EvilWerks LLC 156 Vista Dr Canonsburg, PA 15317 Thanks, Russ |
+1 for Dr Evil......
Had the pleasure of attending his rebuild class last October in Sonoma. Great guy(yes, a real MD) that has a tremendous amount of knowledge. Contact him and follow his shipping instructions to the letter....... Cheers Trevor |

Came across your post and wanted to know how your tranny came out after it's rebuild? I am assuming you had it crated and shipped up north where it was rebuild. |
Hello Gordon,
I can't really tell a difference from the rebuild. The box feels/ shifts the same. Also, the biggest reason I was doing the rebuild was to change the gear ratios for highway driving. There was no difference with the gearing. I ended up using a stock tire size in the rear to try to get the RPM's down. Unfortunately, the engine still turns 3300RPM's @ ~70mph... Be sure to package/ ship the box exactly as he suggests. He will get a little upset if you don't. If you would like more details please feel free to call me. 803-606-7269 Best regards, Russell |

I will give you a call and get your input! Gordon Good to see a fellow Palmetto native on the post! |
If you run a ZD 914 5th and a 7:31 ring and pinion which I have in my car, you'll run about 3300 rpm at 80 mph. Unlike the 65 to 68 912's most stock 69's runs a 6:29 ring and pinion. If you have more power I think a stock 69 transmission with a 7:31 ring and pinion would be very nice.
I run A, GA, N, U, ZD with a Wavetrac TBD. I'm changing to B or C in 1st and maybe ZA in 5th. It'a a late 914 transmission with a 69 to 71 nosecone. 912............................................... .................................................. ....912 69 902/06 11:34 18:32 23:28 26:25 29:23 6:29 (5-Speed) A GA O U Z 912............................................... .................................................. ....912 1965-68 902/1 11:34 18:34 22:29 25:26 28:24 7:31 (5-Speed) 902/02 A F M S X 902 |
