Brake Caliper Question

Hey folks, after taking my newly purchased 912 to the local specialist for The brake issue I mentioned in the other thread it seems that the rear calipers are shot, and that those are no longer made.

I'm more interested in having a solid 4-6 days a week driver as opposed to it being all original, anyone know of any other brakes that will fit on a 912? (914? 944?)

Rear caliper SWB bolt spacing are special .GHIA front caloper but piston are smaller.

I believe there was an Alfa that had the same rears as a 912. May have been the Berlina. Mid 70's model.

Try a '66-67 base 911. Some mention a particular BMW with correct spacing, but it might also be for the later vented rotors. You can have them nicely rebuilt for a reasonable sum at PMB Performance.

Easiest thing is to keep it the same. The brakes have worked well for 50 years no reason to think a good rebuild won't last just as long.

These calipers are easily rebuildable by a DIY person. Take the time to do them yourself and never look back. There is plenty of information right here on Pelican to get the job done. Search, learn and enjoy...........or move on, write a check or spin your wheels wasting your time some not right alternative.

Many thanks for the responses, folks! Rebuild seems to be the best way to go, as you said above djdsc, and from what I've read this evening since getting off work. Looking forward to getting back on the road!

Restored by PMB for 279.00 for a pair is a no brainer. They would also be replated. That is not paint BTW







That is the way they were delivered on the car new.

Eric does fine work. He did the brakes for my 912 POLO car. I just sent him a set of dog bone spacers for a customer of his that also wanted vented rears as I had him do for my car. If he rebuilds your calipers you will love the finished product. Here is a picture of what he did for me. I installed his 908 brake pad pins.

Try Gold Line Brakes in seattle. they did a great job rebuilding my 912 calipers and all but one piston were frozen in place. I also did not have to buy new pistons.

No offense intended but Gold Line was the reason I sent my calipers to PMB. Here's a photo from the PO of calipers after GL rebuild. Notice gold paint on hard cross-lines, rubber: half-a**'ed rebuild if you ask me...

I looks like the piston is misplaced. Remove the wheel and check the clips on the calipers or the piston if they are misplace. but before you do that let somebody to floor the brake pedal and see if it is compressing.
