67 Steering tube replacement

I have a 67 912 with a rusted (long) steering tube. Can this be replaced with a later 68 steering column? Eliminate the long rusty tube or am I missing something here?

Yes you can replace with 68-73 stering column but you have to weld the reenforment part.Look at your 71 and you will see .
