My every day car is a very nice triple black '87 911 coupe. Love the car. 180k and going strong! When you drive it everyday it's hard to fix "things" that need fix'in. So I started to look for a cheap car to augment my 911. My budget was under $3000. The list drifted from a solid '81 euro 323 BMW, '69 MGB-GT, Alfa Guillietta Spider, '75 914, to a '69 Karmann Ghia coupe. I decided on the 914 for $2200. That Monday I was to pick up the 914, orange, primarily rust free, but running rough and no receipts. And then I remembered an ad in the local Porsche pub. Called the owner and left a message. They called back, real nice people, but didn't know very much about the car. That Sunday I drove 1.5 hours to see it. Plopped my 911 battery in it and boom it started right up. Couldn't drive it because the pedal box was frozen. made an offer, he accepted and I picked it up last Monday. Drove it home using the emergency brake (worked very well). I've now rebuilt the pedal box and have to say it's a joy to drive. Turns out I'm the 4th owner, have receipts back to owner #2. I'm in Baltimore and the car lived its life in Torrence CA until 6 mos ago. Solid body and a well cared for interior. I will say the brakes need to be updated. What's the hot ticket?

Hello Jon,
I'm located near Pittsburgh and not that far away from you. My wife and I also own a very nice 912E and love the car. We've had our car awhile now and never get tired of taking it out for a weekend spin. Just wanted to say hello, and enjoy your new Porsche .... Rich G. |
