Porsche 912 / Classic Car - What is the correct way to Wash (ie. No swirl marks)

I own a Porsche 912 and I'm always nervous about washing it since the old paint jobs do not include a clear coat. What I am always worried about is swirl marks from washing it. Also, there are conflicting views on the process -

First when cleaning it it seems the best way is to use a mit and get it nice a soapy, so there is a layer between the dirt, so you aren't scratching the dirt into the paint job causing swirls. Is there a "best" soap to use. Should the Shammy be microfiber, wool, cotton??

Ok, so now for drying, again, should I use Microfiber, Wool, .... in order to dry the car. Again, main worry is adding more swirl marks then there already is.

Any other recommendations. I would prefer to polish the car too often to remove layers of paint.

Also, any quick and easy way to do wax? Any recommendations on the wax?

I've also seen something like this guy for dust removal after taking it out for a drive, but seems like this will leave swirls from what I read.

Thanks!

I only use claybar and a cloth cotton diaper or "Waterless" spray cleaner.

Since these cars are known for rust, I avoid using the hose or water in excess.

If your paint is in good shape, you won't have to worry about putting swirl marks in it by washing it.
I'd recommend this depending on what condition the paint is in:
1) wash with soap and water to remove 'dirt' and to get the paint in a generally clean condition
2) clay bar the car to remove 'dirt' that is embedded in the paint, it will now be ready for polishing
3) start polishing with a foam pad buffing compound if the paint is oxidized
4) polish with a hand glaze
5) wax with a good quality wax

A picture of your car showing the condition of the paint now will/would help a lot.

The swirl marks, unless you have scratch the paint, do not come with washing. They are there from when you polished the paint. If'n you wash the car with clean water and a soap that is made for auto paint, rinse it well with clean water, and then dry it off with clean soft towels. There should not be any problems. However, if'n you live in areas like Southern Cal, that have a lot of minerals in their water. You have to dry off very quickly of you can have mineral streaks showing.

As far as rust, if'n you wash the wheel wells when you wash the car. It will keep the slit from stay in the wells and keeping moister there to cause the rust. After washing the car drive it for a couple of miles, at about 60mph, to blow any water out of the cracks out. Then you can safely park it in the garage. I usually wash the car before I drive it. That way it is dry by the time I get home.

I recommend Zymol natural carnuba wax.

I even wax the chrome, headlights and glass - the rain beads right off.

Been using it for years.

For interior vinyl and leather, I recommend Lexol.
