Looking to pair car with original engine

I'm very new to the forum so sorry if this is elsewhere. I recently purchased a 1969 Porsche 912. According to the previous owner, in the 90's the engine was swapped with a vw 1600 dual port engine in the interest of fuel economy. The owner at the time sold the original engine… Even though I am installing a rebuilt, more performance oriented VW type 4 with a Jake Raby rebuild, I would love to re-unite my 912 with it's original engine one day. Any idea(s) on where to start looking? Thanks.

912 Registry Official Website :: Welcome!

Go to the forum and ask for the website that registers all 912's. I believe the guy is from Canada.

I doubt that it is just sitting around. It either went into a VW dune buggy or another 912. Good luck.

Or a 356 or a Bug or a Karmann Ghia or a sand rail or a 911 or ... Best shot is to get a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche which will gave your car's original engine number and then start the search. I've been looking for mine for about 10 years and still nothing.
