Rear seatbelt mounting points??

Hello 912 ers!

I have a '66 912 and need to install rear seatbelts to take my kids out for a ride. I have the belts but am trying to find the factory (if they exist) mounting holes. I was told by a pretty knowledgeable guy that the mounting points were there underneath the carpet, etc. but have not located them yet.

Did all cars have them?? If so is there a way to find them other than ripping up everything under the carpeting, etc.

Thanks,

Frank

Frank,

Try this link and try a search under "seat belts" not sure if this will help or not as it addresses the installation of 3 point seatbelts.

I also was unable to locate mounts and don't think there are any. On my '67 I used the two outside bolts which fasten the two rear seats and allow them to pivot up and down. One belt on the right , one onthe left and they buckle in the middle ..... one seat belt across the back. Better than nothing and my wife has certified it child safe.

There are no seat belt mounting points on a 66. I had the same problem with mine. Maybe 68 was the first year, 69 for sure. I ended up doing the same thing as jac912 for the outer mounts (i.e. using the pivot hinge on the rear seat back), and had mounts points installed for the inner points (i.e. on either side of the tunnel between the rear seats).

The pivot hinge points work great for car seats, but I think that when my kids get out of car seats, the lap belts may be too high, over the stomach rather than the hips.....but I have several more years to worry about that problem!
