Fuel tank sender mystery

Hello

Happy holidays to all.

I have question about the fuel sender connectors not matching up..

As the pics shown. The connectors from the sender is in an irregular formation compare to the black post, which have an even formation.

The sender shown is from a '66 car and the black post is my "68 912.
Could this be the cause?

Thanks,
Bao

What you have there should work, as you're only using three wires/studs. The fourth stud (furthest to the right in your photo) should serve as a locator pin corresponding to the small slot in the black plug. Try putting it in - it should only fit one way.
