912 heads vs 356 heads

hello
i hope someone can help me here,
i'm building up a 1969 912 motor and i need a set of heads.. this big question is what heads can i use on the motor,
i see a lot of heads listed as 356/912 but what are interchangeable with the 1969 motor.
the core i am starting with did have one head on it part # 616 104 301 03.
could someone please give me the run down as to what part number can be used on this project,
thank you so much for your help.

Do you have the original 69 heads? Heads can be reclaimed at some expense: here are 4 photos from two different sets of heads and a composite of the invoices. Len Hoffman (Hoffman Automotive Machine, Inc) reworked these heads. All the heads needed crack welding (except one chamber of 8) and the set I thought was junk turned out to be the preferred set after rework!

just sayin'

Here's a partial list pulled from the net. This might be a good place to start a detailed database on the subject. Please consider this as merely a starting point.

616 04 205 A/early B
616 104 032 00 62/63 model year B
616 104 301 02 C, SC, Early 912 - SC
616 104 301 03 912 head -
616 104 301 1R 68 912 with air pump holes or 69 with flat but not drilled for air pump

Check the Pelican 356 Used Parts thread as heads come up occasionally and post a WTB thread on the 912 BBS; if you're not a member already, joining the 912 BBS is free.
