Hey there, I Also Own a early 66 Irish Green Porsche Currently Restoring from a hideous faded Burgundy Color, 3 Gauge Car, Would love to see a Picture of it?

This is what i found via 912 registry and howstuffworks .com

As it turned out, the public wanted far more Targas than Porsche planned (originally 12.7 percent of total series production). Porsche also found that the 912 sold much better than the 911, though that wasn't too surprising given the price difference. Of the nearly 13,000 Porsches built in 1966, more than 9,000 912 had four cylinders.

Approximately 9000 912s in 1966
14.2% of the cars Were Irish Green
Total Of Irish Green Cars Produced in 66 were around 1278

Standard versus Special Order
Colors of Porsches delivered in 1966, by percentage of overall production [as indicated in the October 1967 Christophorus]
Light Ivory (23.9%), Polo Red (18.7), Irish Green (14.2), Sand Beige (9.5), Aga [dark] Blue (8.7), Slate Grey (6.9), Bahama Yellow (6.5), Gulf [light] Blue (4.6), Metallic Silver (3.1), Black (3.0), other colors (0.9%)

Sorry to butt in on you like this, but I have to share that I have a October 1996 irish green / brown leatherette 912 that I´m restoring to hopefully at least some of its former glory. Currently she is red with black leatherette.
If we go on like this we have all roughly 1200 accounted for.

For your information: Green was Dr. Porsche's favorite color.

Also the percentage of colors sold were world wide, we do not know what percentage of the Irish Green were imported to the US.

Jaems? Im quite Frankly glad the green was his Favorite Color Its an amazing looking car.
Does anyone by chance know how many cars were imported in 66? being either 911s, 912s or both combined? I tried finding and had no such luck?

My 66 912 , has a beast of a time starting , Have to pump like crazy to get it to start takes 5 or 6 tries cranking 2 min. It has 38k on it completely original. Motor has never been removed. Original solex . I am thinking its the fuel pump but it seems to be filling the carbs with no problem and watching the carbs when its cranking I am seeing gas come out of the tubes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

cranking the starter for 2 mins is not a good idea. It will be come very hot and could burn it out.

Pull the plugs and see if you are getting gas to the cylinders. If not, then the jets are probably plugged. If you are getting gas then: Adjust the valves, check the timing, checked the points and dewel, replaced the plugs, then check the coil.. It should then start, if too rough then adjust the carburetors. These things have to be in good shape and in adjustment for a easy to start and good running 912 engine.

If you car sits for very long like a month or two. Then it will be a little hard to start. The mechanical fuel pumps take a while to fill the bowels with gas. That is why some of us use electric fuel pumps. It saves wear and tare on the starter and batteries.

This is what I use. Outboard marine priming bulb
Squeeze and start. Three squirts work for me.

Oct 66 and Nov 66 would both be MY67 cars, like mine (also 10/66).
