Quick wheel fitment question...

Hi all,

Quick question. Will 5.5 X 14 in. Fuch wheels fit my '66 912 without using wheel spacers. I have a line on some to replace my steel wheels but don't want the extra expense of spacers.

Thanks,

Frank

I'm not 100% but I have seen a set on a 68 911 which I'm sure didn't have any spacers.

Maybe you should also post this question on the 911 list.

Porsche Crest wheels

I once ran 6"x15" fuchs on my 69,912, no problems.

I would say yes but I'm not sure of the 14inch off set. Chas mentiions he has used 6inch fuchs I've also had 7's and 8's on the rear on a 69 912 I once bought.

Heres 14's on my new car. Its a 1971 911 E.

Alan,

Come to think of it, how in hell did you get 7s and 8s on a 912? Maybe because the wheel base was longer on the later 60s cars? Did you roll the fenders or have flairs? WOW.

Regards,

Frank

Porsche Crest flared fenders....

Frank,
Perhaps Alan has been able to run 7 and 8's due to the flared fenders on the 69, 912, models from 66 thru 68 did not have such a feature.

Chas,

Right you are. No flares. I think I'm going to buy them from a salvage yard I know and see if they fit. I can return them but ask the questions to avoid having to bring them back. Now I'm sure the 5.5 x 14 would fit but they are a distance away and that makes me a little nervous as I can't judge condition and certainly can't return them. Ah, the fear of getting burned.......

Thanks,

Frank

Hey Guys,

Just a quick note to let you folks know how things worked out. I got the Fuchs wheels in 7 and 8 in x 15s and they actually worked!! Good thing as they were in excellent condition. They have black centers with polished edges and painted center caps. The 7 x 15s have 205/55s and the 8x 15s have 215/60s. The clearance on the front must be all of 1/2 mm to the top tube of the shock but there appears to be no rubbing. The rears have plenty of clearance to the body ( inside) but rub the fenders over hard bumps and when cornering sometimes. Tomorrow I am having a set of 225/50s put on. That should provide more clearance from the fenders than the 60 series tires and the plan will be complete. Needless to say I can't lower the car like Dave has. They stick out a bit much, as did Alan's from the looks of his pictures, but are way cool. I have a set of 7x15 phone dials from my 944 but the look is a bit dated......

Thanks for your replies and help and I'll try to get a couple of pictures up if I can figure out how.

Regards,

Frank
