Need some help fixing odometer
So my odometer quit on me in the fall and I'm finally getting around to taking it apart and fixing it. I've pulled it apart hoping to find that the gear mentioned in the tech article was the culprit, but it's not. Instead it seems to be the gear that the speedo cable initially connects to and spins (see pics below). What is this gear called and is there anywhere to buy a replacement? Also, I'm not sure how to get it out.

Did you check the connection at the transaxle? A lot of the time this connection will loose it's plug and the gear will disengage from the transaxle.
There is also two VDO repair places in California. One in LA and the other in Palo Alto. Just Google them and they should pop up. |

They will also calibrate it to the size tires you are using.
Most of the old original speedometers were about 10% off due to German law. That is why everyone has the allusion of great gas mileage. After I had my recalibrated I never got more than 26mpg on a flat freeway. It has also been checked with GPS. |
