Ignition switch.
 

Well I have come to inpass. My ignition switch has gone bad and after 1 1/2 months I am still unable to find one. Any suggestions. I have checked with Parts Heaven and Pelican here. No luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

My '67 had a cheap aftermarket ignition switch which faulted on me by cutting out while cruising along. Talk about backfiring! You can find a nice one from Stoddard or Pelican I'm sure or do what I did. I was happy to pay $8 at Advance Auto Parts ... blister pack included. ;)

Try this guy. His info was passed on when I received my car. I have not had any experience with him but my father-in-law (the previous owner) got the ignition switch fixed by him. If I remember correctly, you send him your broken ignition switch and money, and he sends you a working one.

I bought a switch with no key ($50.00)and just took the guts out (except the key tubbler)and installed in my ignition switch thereby keeping my original key for the doors and ignition. there is really only 1 key part you need from the replacement and that is the "contactor" that makes the different connections when you turn the key. It is an "X" shaped peice that rotates with the key.


I think I might have some pics pics and can send instructions on rebuilding if you need them.

You might want to use a steering-lock ignition switch
 

My '66 912 came with a steering-wheel lock ignition, 911 style. When my '68 Targa ignition switch shorted out ( under a gas station canopy, no less) I checked to see if the locking style ignition switch would fit there also. Sure enough, the notched disc was behind the dash on my steering column assembly, and the steering lock fit. If you consider doing this, check under your dash first to make sure you have all the necessary parts; you'll also need a different dash "ignition switch baseplate".
