050 distributor

I ordered a 009 for my stock 912 and now after a little reasearch i found that its probably not the right distributor for me. The 050 sounds a little bit better. Where would be a good place to find one, and what kinda $ am i lookin to lay down. Also is there anything that needs to be changed or modifyed to use this distributor? Thanks

Try www.aircooled.net

They have them new for $75 under the ignition section.

Nothing special to hook it up, just pull the old one, plug off the vacuum line if you still have it, and put the new one in. Pay close attention to the orientation since my 050 was off about 90 degrees from the stock one. No big deal, just moved the plugs all over one spot.

I'm running the 050 with a pertronix. Works nicely with a good steady spark.

Later,

G

CB Performance has them also, not sure of their price now. When you install the 050 you will notice that #1 is now at the bottom of the dist. instead of near the top. Make sure you have the engine set to #1 before removing the old dist. Timing should be 5BTDC at idle. I use a Sears Magic Dial timing light-makes the job a lot easier. With this you set the timing at 33 degrees BTDC at 3000rpm for the best performance. Points (if you will be using them) can be purchased from any VW parts store & are the same as the 044.
