Spark Plug change???????????
 

Hi all,

I am about to change the spark plugs in my 912 (67, Big Bore) for the first time. I have selected NGK BP7HS plugs. What I need to know from you is what to gap them at? And any tricks you might have picked up while changing them that will help ease or speed the process. Simple in theory never in reality.

Your spark plug gap should be the same: .024 in. or 0.6mm.

here us an idea also keep a piece of rubber hose that will fit over your spark plug ends , what it will do for you is amazing it will keep the plug going to the hole where your /my short fingers stop I never can reach the plug holes good enough the hose will give you a extension so to speak , don't be agraid to take of a carb if nessicary, I have had to when I got so frustrated one time cover it with tape so no baddies go in timmy SmileWavy

Or you could use the magnetic spark plug wrench (which was included in my tool kit) and avoid all the frustration. Makes the job easy.

Simple indeed...this is Porsches little joke on the home mechanic. The first time I did a plug change the #1 took me the better part of the afternoon and several trips to the tool store. Make sure you have a socket that has the little foam thingy inside to grip the plug. They are really a joy to fish out from under the engine tin if they slip out of the socket. A good magnet wand is also a usefull investment for porsche owners...

When I want to check/change plugs.. I mention to my 17 year old that I might consider his using the 12 for the night.. after he brings me the plugs.
Plugs to me.. OK.. put these in, check gap..whatever applies.. check gap/timing.. and its yours for the night.
this works with oil changes as well. does not seem to work with cleaning his room or improving his behavior towards younger brother... too much to ask?

here is another thing to go with the rubber hose ,I also use the plug socket with a foam insert. but it always gives me problems try this to place a strip of masking tape over the plug socket end, when the plug tears thru the tape it tightens uup the fit of the plug/socket I tried almost every thing to change plugs at times have fun timmySmileWavy
