1969 912 shocks

Can anyone tell me the brand and color or the OEM shocks in the front and rear of the car?

Originally orange Boge, later black. If they came with a special order for Koni then a red orange.

These are the original Boge

Thanks for the reply Jaems. The COA doesn't show a special order of Koni so I would assume correct would be like your Boge's?

My car has original paint and every single piece is original. A time capsule. That said, I stupidly replaced the shocks for a better ride when I first bought he car from the original owner and now want the original shocks rebuilt and back. Are these hard to source? Anyone have a pair?

I have a full set of original Koni's on the shelf (my car had that option). I would imagine you could find a set of Boge too.

How or where would it state if a car arrived with Koni's? Would that definitely be listed on the COA?

Thanks a ton Michael. With that, I know I need the Boge ones. It's a 1969 so I am curious now if they would be black or Orange.

The original orange are no longer available. I am not sure when they became black. I am sure that Pelican should have them.

If I am to find and buy orange Boge's for my 1969 912, are they able to be rebuilt keeping the exterior color and patina?

My car is nearly 99% original. Paint, interior, etc. etc. etc. I stupidly had new shocks put on when I first bought the car and the ignorant mechanic didn't offer to have my original's rebuilt. Just gave me some other set sadly. Now I am wanting to get back to correct.

Those of us, that have had these cars forever, have replaced parts with newer up to date OEM ones over the years, because that was what was available. We were driving the cars and were not thinking about keeping them original. But keeping them on the road, driving them. Instead of rebuilding a original part, they were just replaced with a new part. That is how some 912 ended up with VW parts instead of original Porsche ones.

When the cost of rebuilding the 022 Bosch distributor was more than to replace it with a VW Bosch 050 or 009. Or the VW horn, which was the same as the Porsche ones costed $15 compared to the Porsche one at $95, just different part numbers. Instead of keeping the original engine, replacing it with a cheaper VW one. Because it was cheaper and still wanted to project the image. Instead of doing it right and driving an original car.

What some have done. They took the black Boges and had them painted orange to match the originals. For a concours they would be cleaned up and bright. They have also painted the Bosch blue coils to the original black color and put the old original yellow Bosch label on. Some have also upgraded to the Koni. They just go to what was available that year for the car.

I doubt you can find anyone to rebuild the original Boges. The back ones are a shock and the front are a insert inside the strut tube.

I don't have a date but the orange Boge's were on the early cars, maybe into '67. Not to worry by '69.
