recommend 912 restoration company ?
Hi guys I'm new to this fantastic forum....
I'm thinking of buying a 912 from the US and shipping over to UK.... This seems straightforward apart from no one seems to accept escrow. All the cars I see need rust work or paint etc .....* I was thinking it might be more cost effective to buy a US car, have it shipped to a US restorer to do works then onto the UK.* Is this a good idea and can anyone recommend a good cost effective US 912 restorer (I'm not looking for concourse just good and clean) for the works that I could ship to first???* Many thanks in advance .... sorry if it appears to be a dumb question. This will be my first classic*)))) |

Cost effective and classic Porsche do not go together. Lol...
I would recommend finding someone local (in the UK) so you can personally monitor the work and the $....eh....&..... MattR Last edited by matt930s; 04-10-2016 at 05:42 AM.. |

shop for and buy, a car that is completely done. the color and year you have always wanted. do not get into the restoration game/thinking it great except for blankity blank that needs to be done... if you have the money for this, then proceed .... otherwise, save some more money..... shop at Porsche concourse and swap meets..... it is often that a builder would be finished with a project and want to sell it to move on to the next project... most importantly have the car pre-purchase inspected at both a Porsche dealer for the mechanical and at a restoration shop to look for quality of body work, paint and upholstery.... the time you spend shopping is well worth the time that you would otherwise suffer the pains of getting parts and pieces assembled correctly by someone you have not even met yet..... bob

bobrestore +5 I restore these cars. If you can find a real nice one for 35 to 50,000 US that will be a steal. Most of the good shops have more than 2 years of backlog. Find one done and save time AND a bunch of money. At $50 to $100 and hour you are looking at $4 to $800 a day in labor. It takes a LOT of hours to restore a car. It takes a lot of effort to clean and paint or plate all those parts. I can't tell you how many middle class folks go into this with dreamy thoughts only to run out of money and have to sell their project for 50 cents on the dollar. Buy one done. Chris
