Solex 40 PII-4s from 356 or 912? Value?

Just got a pair of Solex 40 PII-4s on Sauer & Sohn manifolds (for VW Type 1 upright engines) that have been stored for years. The carbs seem to be in reasonable shape, throttle shafts are tight and I don't feel any significant ridges where the butterflies seat. I’ve been trying to determine what year 356/912 they are from based on the serial number and its been inconclusive so far. The Carb serial numbers are 9197139 and 9231083 and they appear to have split shafts. Guessing the Sauer & Sohn German manifolds for VW have to be from the late 60s or early 70s since by the mid 70s most were putting Weber DCNFs or IDFs on their VW engines for more performance.

Any help/confirmation on whether they are off a 356 or 912 and hopefully what year(s) they are from would be appreciated. Anyone have a good idea on value? Thanks in advance for any info.

The split shafts started in 1968. Used till 1969.

Thanks much for the info! I thought they looked like split shafts based on what I had researched. Further reading on the split shafts indicates the better progression circuit (more holes) but the plastic/rubber isolator block wears and they fall out of tune although it appears a replacement is available.

Anyone have an idea on a value? I originally thought the earlier the carb the better (more valuable) but am not sure now since the later ones (2 yrs only? 68/69?) have a better progression circuit?

These run quite the range in value. I've seen them for as low as $300 a pair and up to $750. If you want to sell I bet you would have a fair amount of takers in the $350-$400 range.

I sold a extra set that I had laying around for $350 a few months ago. They needed a rebuild but seemed fair to me.
