Distributor
ALL,
Have a 67-912 with stock engine...inquiring if you had changed over to a electronic igniter Petronix or similar brand if so why and if not why not...interested in the Pro's and Con's and what your experience is. |

I went along with the stock unit for a period, then upgraded to a point-less system from The "Official" USA Site for 123Ignition Perfect Timing Every Time
This system has adjustable curves that offered me the performance & lack of maintenance that I was looking for. Its a fifteen minute install & can be reversed just as simply. Its a very professional piece, well made & reasonably priced. So much so that I ordered one for my Sons '63 Beetle too. |

Have used the Petronix for over 20 years on several of my Porsches. In conjunction with their coil/CD, I have not had to do a tuneup for over 14 years. Just check the valves and timing when I do the Spring oil/filter changes. The engine has had the same spark plugs.
Some claim that they have had problems. However, mine has never missed a beat. Though I do carry an extra distributor, with points, a coil, and extra parts just in case. But I would do that anyway, even if I didn't use the Petronix. |

I also used a Pertronix in my 66 for many years without any issues.
I've used Pertronix in several cars with good success.... However, I have heard that the quality of Pertronix products has taken a dip in recent years - so be careful. thanks, Erik. |
