76 912E Exhaust Popping

Morning everyone,

I was warming up my '67 912 with a '76 912E Type 4 2.0 this morning and at first, noticed water dripping in the center of the rear end. Figured it was just condensation. Then after the car was warmed up I started to notice this popping noise coming from the muffler area, or in that area, I think. Here is a short 30-second video with the noise, anyone has an idea of the issue?

Thanks,

Brian

My first guess would be an exhaust leak. I’d check the muffler for rust-through, then the copper seals at the muffler to pipe connections, then the downpipe to cyl. head seals.

Hi. My guess is you have a loose or missing air pump connection behind the exhaust valve on one cylinder. My 912E had a popping I couldn't figure out right away.
Perhaps you don't have fuel injection on the engine. Those ports can come loose.
