Few day a go,I have problem with hazard relay-BJ 1966-only one side working, and not flashing.
Result is very easy.
Can you open the aluminium(aloy)relay box with small screwdriver.(careful your hand)
Realey contact with 4-pin:
-green(30)+
-white (s)-
-double black(left)
-solo black(right)

After open, you can see on the top side, there a little screw!..can you adjustable the distance between 2-pin.
screwdriver little bit left,or little bit right.

Before setting -small-grater should be cleaned the contacts.
good luck

Thanks, however, one or the other just burned out. If I can't find a source. I will just take the Hazards lights off line.

Hi Jaems,

Indeed it's me and I could not resist to answer your question regarding the hazard relay and switch.

As you know I have a model '66 and a '68 and did some research during the restoration of the Porsche "electrickery". Luckily my relays could be saved and the switches where in good condition. Nevertheless I thought it would be wise to get some spare - if possible new or after market lokalikes. New ones are not available anymore since more than decades as well in the US as here in Europe and used ones are as reliable as the ones in your car.

I think the best solution - if you want/need the emergency flashers - you could bypass the existing circuit and use a modern alternative. With just a few relays and some wiring it can be realized and is easy reversable.

An other possibility might be found in the VW bus from the same period. It could be that they used more or less the same circuit. Parts for these old VW's are available. I did not look at this solution because it was not urgent for me at that time.

Last but not least, you coul repair the old relay with the internal relay parts of a modern (VW/Porsche/Hella) relay. Some work, but the result is optical perfect period correct solution.

Should you need any help, just let me know.

Otto

Hi Jaems,

A nice easily reversable solution is here on the board:

SWB hazard relay, flasher, and switch

And relatively cheap too ...

Perhaps it's possible to transplant the internals from the two relays into the original Porsche hazard relay.

Thanks for the help Otto. I have sure missed you around here.

I am assuming that it was the Hazard flasher that burned out. I pulled the hazard switch to test it and now I only have the right turn signals and the left parking lights are on all the time, even with the key off.

Until I try one of the solutions that I have been given. I and just going to by pass the Hazards lights for now. I need to go to Duges's Ranch Roundup this weekend.

Thanks again for the help. Otto and Bob.

I thought of emailing you several times. However, I didn't want to disturb you, Otto. It is good to hear from you again and know your are still kicking.
