Rear calipers
I have a pair of rear calipers that have spacers which I assume is for thicker vented rotors. Can these spacers be removed so the calipers could be used for thinner solid rotors?
Thanks David |

There are just basically two types of SWB rear calipers. The only SWB stock ones with spacers were for the '67 911S and '68 911S and L. These calipers referred to as "wide L" are very desirable as they allow for rear vented rotors on a SWB car and they have a larger caliper piston (38mm) than the stock 912/911 (35mm). Make sure they are SWB rears with about 2.25" bolt spacing.
To answer your question directly, yes you could remove the spacer but you need new bolts, hardware and cross over pipe. You can sell them for enough $$$ to rebuild your whole braking system. Did I say they are very rare?
