Teach me to build 200hp typeIV
Ok guys, Im new to the 912 type IV thing but I am finding myself becoming infatuated with the idea of building an ultra light 912e with a hot type 4 engine. Let your imaginations run amuck and tell me if it is possible to build a 200 hp version of this motor in a street car that gets driven about 10,000 miles a year, and tell me how to do it.. Thanks a bunch

Hmmn, got 10 Grand????
I do these engines as a life, 200HP is not even easy for me to make. |
are we talking NA??
if no, just turn up the boost...it'll make 600 hp for about 3 seconds... sjd |
Yeah...I was talking N/A
|
Thinking about it...you could make a reliable 200hp all day with custom fuel injection and a turbo...

Sealing the heads is the challenge, been there, done that, have the broken parts to prove it.
It can be done, and has been done but mostly with smaller bore sizes which are easier to seal. Like I said, got 10 grand? wanna spend it on something that can run over advanced or lean for 3 seconds and look like Hiroshima inside??? |
Hey Jake...
I've been over drooling at your site and will most likely be buying one of your engines in the next couple of months(gotta wait on the old bonus check)...I was wondering if you might know of anyone who makes custom sheetmetal for the type 4 or even type 1 that'll work for a 912...I know I know...it ain't hard too modify and make it work...but I'm lazy when it comes to stuff like that...if I can buy it why build it myself!!
|
Nobody makes those parts to my knowledge as every car would be a tad different....some .040 Aluminum sheeting and a pair of shears and tin snips can make it happen easily.......even though you are lazy you can still do this...LOL
If you want an engine anytime soon I recommend making contact ASAP, my schedule is changing alot as next year I'm only doing 1/2 as many engines as previous...I'm working on March's schedule now.. |
where in georgia are you???
I'm in Snellville, just east of the big rock outside atlanta... sjd |
So are u saying that the 911 fan set up wont fit in the 912 without major mods???? What kind of performance numbers could be expected out of a 160 hp type 4 in a 2200 lb 912e?
|
anything will fit, it just takes some time..
My 912E with a 130BHP 2056 feels doubly as strong as the stock engine, I have never driven a 912E with a 2270, but I KNOW it would be a blast, atleast double the factory zero-60 times.. |
Which of your engines produces the 130hp, what does it take to achieve that? Thanks for your time as I am a newbie to the 912.
|
from what I understand, you could get close to 130hp out of a type IV with a 3/4 cam, euro p/c's dual webers and Bursch exhaust.
|
130HP true dyno HP takes a tad bit more than that.....
what the hell is a 3/4 cam? this is not a Chevy engine...LOL |
DrEBerg,
For 130BHP on a Type IV, you'll need to spend some time and $$$$ on the cylinder heads. BTDT on my 2056CC. I am running slighly over 9:1 JEs w/44 x 38 SS and extensive TLC on the heads. Mild cam and associated components from FAT performance. My induction consists of a Throttle body and injectors from a 2.1L Vanagon (LOL). This combo provides me with good low end torque and nice smooth power at 3,500-5,500 rpm (above that the factory speed limiter kicks in). Dont get me wrong, I dont feel that I am at 130bhp. I would estimate 110-120 range, but that is just an estimate. Good Luck, Bob |
