Underpowered 912

Hello

I just bought a 912. The car is really underpowered.
I believe that it has a type 2 bug engine in it and a 4-speed bug transmission.
I can get up to 70 mph on the highway at 3500 rpm (ugh!)

What are my options for getting a more powerfull engine + transmission?

How much does it cost to get a rebuilt porsche engine + 5 speed transmission?

I called a place that said they could put a (2180 bug engine, dual webbers, coolers + 5 speed bug transmission) into the car for $4500.00 installed

Stop playing with bug stuff and get a (quasi-) Porsche engine in there! Grab a 2.0L out of a 914, buy a big bore kit (mine's 2.4L) and go racing! There's an easy 150+hp in the 2.4L with dual Webers. A 912 does not have to hide in the shadows of a 911!

Power

Have you repowered yet. Did you figure out what motor you have. I was thinking about your numbers and believe my 912 motor with a 5 speed cruises at 70 at about the same speed, 3500rpm. Doesn't seem to mind though and still has lots left. How fast do you want to go. DG

I finally got mine tuned and did a big ol' burnout in my driveway...6-10 feet...I'll take a pic tomorrow...

of course this was on VERY dry Pirelli's from about 1976 that were about 4 Inches wide.
