The Ultimate Porsche Weekend, Jan 31-Feb 2!
Repeat after me, It doesn't get any better than this!
In just two weekends, Southern California is going to be packed with Porsche events. Here's the schedule for those of you that haven't been paying attention: Friday January 31st - Willhoit Restorations is holding their annual open house. They are open from 9am until 4pm. For more info and directions, check this site: www.willhoitautorestoration.com Saturday February 1st - The Porsche and Vintage VW Literature, Toy and Memorabilia Meet date is Saturday, February 1, 2003. The meet is put on by Jim Perrin, Prescott Kelly and Wayne Callaway. The meet will again be at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton Hotel at 5711 West Century Blvd. in Los Angeles, phone 310-410-4000. On Saturday Afternoon, famous 356 restoration house, Rusty Bottoms is having their open house. It's in Yorba Linda (Orange County). Info will be posted in a couple of days. Here's their address: Rusty Bottoms 4871 School St. Yorba Linda, CA 92886 Ph: 714-779-5536 Next is the Tribute to Scooter Patrick dinner. He's a famous old porsche racer and here's the link to this event on Saturday night: www.carbuffs4kids.org/tribute.html February 2nd - The world famous Dunkel Brothers Swap Meet in Anaheim (Orange County, near Disneyland). February 2nd is the date and it is the best event besides the 912 Rendezvous that you will attend in you 912 in 2003! 200 plus Porsche's will be parked on the grass. Ther will probably be more than 400 Porsche's in attendence. If you haven't been, you won't believe it. If you have been, you can't wait to go back. You will be parking next to 550 Spyders, Speedsters, 356 A-Cs, early 911s and unbelievable vintage Porsche race cars. Behind all these great cars is the biggest all Porsche Swap Meet you will ever see. Classic and Speed Parts, Parts Obsolete, Autos International, Performance Products, Strasse, Harry Pellow and lots of other vendors will be there. If you are looking for a "hard" part, this is the place to find it! The Dunkels's also have a really amazing collection of vintage cars, vintage race cars, boats, motorcycles and automotive memorabilia in their own museum on site. This event is truely a one of a kind event! The 912s have never been given the respect at this event that the other vintage Porsches have, but this year the Dunkel's have asked us to come and represent. In the past, we were brought in on a first come first served basis. This year, the Dunkel's have allotted us 25 spaces. We will be parking together with the early 911S Registry and the R Gruppe. The area will have all 901 and 902 Porsche's. This is a major breakthrough for the 912 and how it is being perceived. We have gained the respect of the Porsche community and we must take advantage of this opportunity and really blow it out. We need to fill these 25 spaces. We don't need perfect show cars (of course, we will have lots of very nice cars). We want 912s in all conditions. It will not matter. It's not a car show. We will not be judged. Just make sure you detailed it before you bring it. We are there to wave the 912 flag. Here's the drill. Wash and vacuum your car. It's not a car show, but we are representing the 912 model at this event. Second, open your wallet and look inside and pull a $20 bill out. Put it in the glove compartment and put it aside for the event. This is what will be collected from every car owner displaying on the lawn. It goes to a local children's charity. Now we have to meet up and come as a group. John Benton and I are going to show up on Saturday to set up. Let me know if you want to come on Saturday, as we welcome the help. We're going to set up an EZ up, a table and some chairs. John and I are going to leave our cars there overnight. We are going to set up for 25 cars. That's it. We can get more space, but we will need to know that before we go on Saturday to set up. Here's the move in drill: We will be driving in together, so we will need to rally at breakfast, just down the street at Denny's (directions will be forthcoming) at 5:45AM. Yes, I know that's early, but IT WILL BE WORTH IT! At 6:30AM we will need to line up and drive together down to Dunkel's. We will be let in a special gate and go to our display parking area. This is the most important part of the day. We need to be on time or the work of a lot of folks will be throw out the window. I can't stress enough the importance of this event. You that have been there, understand. Please come out and let me know early that you are coming. When you commit to come, please don't back out. As you can and will see, it is a very organized event and our efforts to represent will be rewarded both in the community and in the media. This event will be covered by Excellence, Panorama, the 356 Registry, 356 Club, and the new 912 Registry magazine. Oops! Let that one slip out...more on that in just a week or so. So dust that 912 off and represent! So there you have it. The most Porsche packed weekend you may ever be a part of. It is amazing that all of this is going on. Some many choices, all fun. If I do all of them, my wife will change the locks and I might as well move into the Targa, but I'm gonna try to do it all. Join me won't you. this opportunity only comes around once a year. So breath and repeat after me, I doesn't get any better than this!
